WATER LOGGED LATRINES

Mwaidhuma Abdul is a resident of Wanyange Lake landing site found in Jinja district, he resorted to open defecation as a result a water logged area

He said that “ I got fade up of constructing new latrines because each time it rains heavily, the feaces from the latrine come out and flood the whole compound and community”. During our discussion, I managed to check on his latrine that almost collapsed due to the flooded area and this gave him and his family difficult time to and fro the latrine whenever nature calls

He narrated to us the challenges associated with water logged latrines

• They are not easy to construct because of the high water table
• They are too expensive to construct
• The latrines frequently get filled up with water and at times spills in the compound and neighbored
• Not conducive to use on rainy days
• They smell badly
• Emptying becomes a problem and expensive

As a result of the above, the family resorted to open defecation and going to neighborhood. In preparation for this year’s 2018 world toilet day celebration in Buwenge Town council, Let us work together to fight open defecation and urination in our communities.
