ABOUT US
Alliance Water Solutions (AWASO) is a non-profit organization incorporated in the republic of Uganda. It was founded in 2014 to Implement, Operate, Maintain and Manage piped water and Sanitation facilities. We compliment, consolidate and enhance the efforts of Communities, Community Based Organizations (CBOs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and local government in an integrated and sustainable manner so as to secure and provide safe water of adequate quantity and quality, better hygiene and sanitation facilities for all social and economic needs of the present and future generation, with the full participation of all stakeholders with a priority of functional, reliable sustainable WASH services.
We work with communities to construct and promote water borne toilets and mini piped water schemes customized to the community in markets/Trading centers, landing sites, Islands, schools, churches, Mosques and Tax/Bus parks, we contribute towards achieving multiplier effects, in order to improve sanitation and decrease open defection with in public places so as to reduce water borne diseases especially schistosmiasis (Bilharzias) Trachoma and intestinal worms among others in Busoga Region.
we used to mobilize money to take him to hospital every now and then on top of prayers until he passed on, little did we know that it was Bilhazia taking our people because more four deaths of a similar type occurred in our parish. Our community is surrounded by swamps and open wells; many community members utilize them for rice growing, bathing and collect water for home use.
These deaths prompted us through Christ The Foundation Church to mobilize our members towards improving sanitation and use of clean safe water. However, our effort was on small scale and the impact was not much felt yet more areas especially landing sites, Islands and markets lack Health education and sanitation facilities. “One incident I cannot forget is when we visited with an American friend on Kimi Islands to sensitize them on clean water and improved sanitation, he got a stomach discomfort and wanted to go, but there was no place of convenience, the community had a gazetted place for open defecation and we had to cancel the program to travel back on-land to help this brother who was now using a bag after every hour”
Alliance Water Solutions was formed to address public sanitation through promotion of Health education, construction of water borne toilets, and provision of safe water schemes to communities around swamps, lakes, rivers and markets in Busoga region in a bid to reduce exposure to water borne diseases and notable ones being Bilhazia, Trachoma and intestinal worms among others
Busoga region has 10 districts and is blessed with flesh water bodies namely L. Victoria, L. Kyoga and River Nile, the main economic activity around these water bodies is fishing and agricultural that instigated people to settle around them. However the situation analysis for the Trachoma control program, (F&E Module) Uganda, January 2014 report indicated that 22.7% of the households in Busoga region are practicing open defecation which has increased the prevalence for Trachoma in the region.
We therefore live to promote improved WASH services in public places; our desire is to see that communities have convenient reliable safe water, water borne toilets and reduced disease burden for a healthy wealthy community
